Question for Tucker:

What is one thing that is small and perhaps nuanced or surprising and perhaps typically subconscious that you can tell drives you each day?

Tucker's Response:

I wake up each day with a restless need to create, build, and move things forward. I’m not sure where I got the entrepreneurial bug—I’m the first in my family—but I’ve come to realize my brain is wired like many entrepreneurs: idea-driven, impatient, and always chasing progress.

If I sense stagnation, I feel a chemical level of discomfort. I get restless and often disconnect in order to work on something that interests me and seems like an answer. Some of these projects probably lead nowhere, but it’s the discomfort that pushes me to explore.

Over time, I’ve learned to recognize this feeling and pay attention to it. It’s a call to action but one that needs some analysis and a plan. A recent example is my current endeavor, Arrowside Capital. Last summer, I had a strong feeling of discomfort. I took a step back, listened to it, and realized I needed to make changes and redirect resources to improve our growth prospects. Now, months after setting that plan in motion, I’m seeing progress.

I have a hard time imagining doing anything—work, exercise, or any other endeavor—where I would say, “ok, that’s enough.” I don’t think I will ever stop building, it’s just who I am.

I suspect Tucker would love all direct responses from you.  I find it incredibly encouraging when I hear from any of you after I share my thoughts. It is powerful for me. I assume many others have a similar experience. So here is Tucker's email… pip

Amanda's thought…

Tucker, thank you for highlighting the art of noticing discomfort and leaning in when it arises. I love the idea of turning feelings of unease and other emotions that might initially seem negative into opportunities for growth and positive change. As you mentioned, these moments can serve as catalysts for further exploration. I appreciate you sharing a glimpse of your life and work, and how you thrive Tucker. Thank you.
