CFC Blog #197: Earth Day-Inspired Anti Pet Peeves

As I was reaching out to collect anti pet peeves for Earth Day, Maria responded with a more extensive list, and I decided to share this wonderfully detailed list with the community! She also used her inspiration to create a little collage to go with it as you'll see below! I hope you enjoy - I am ALL for celebrating Earth Day not just on the 22nd, but everyday :) Thank you for keeping the theme going, Maria!

Earth Day-Inspired Anti Pet Peeves

I think I can spend a lifetime listing Earth Day anti-pet peeves! The beautiful thought from Jane Goodall always comes to my mind when I think of nature. She said, "A SENSE OF CALM CAME OVER ME. MORE AND MORE OFTEN I FOUND MYSELF THINKING, THIS IS WHERE I BELONG. THIS IS WHAT I CAME INTO THIS WORLD TO DO."

Happy Earth Every Day to you.

EARTH DAY INSPIRED ANTI-PET PEEVES:

- Seeing many fireflies, and then, all of a sudden, they sync!

- Seeing a murmuration (birds flying together, changing pattern in a whirling)

- Finding lichen in trees (they are a bioindicator, letting us know that the air quality is good)

- Walking down the street, turning in a corner, and a jasmine tree is flowering... the scent is so happy

- Being in the field and finding a 'saborosa', which is a Brazilian cactus fruit, so refreshing, sweet, delicious

- The starry sky at night when lights from the city are rare and you even see the Milkyway
- The smell of rain in a garden

- Taking off your shoes in a fine sand beach

- Waterfalls at perfect temperature

- The sound of the forest at night

- The sound of the forest at dawn

- Seeing the courtship ritual of birds

- Seeing the mating ritual of frogs

- Turtles coming out of their eggs and going towards the water

- Whales

- Hummingbirds

- Golden-greenish stingless bees (jatai)

- Experiencing the thermocline in lakes

- Finding caddisflies' larvae cases in creeks

- Using the inverted microscope and focusing on diatoms, desmids, golden algae, and dinoflagellates in your freshwater sample!
