Question for Bob:

What is one thing that is small and perhaps nuanced or surprising and perhaps typically sub conscious that you can tell drives you each day ?

Bob's Response:

"Have you ever played the computer game Civilization? A key part of this game (and many others) is to explore a darkened map. Your character moves to bring light to the map, unveiling new land, rivers, mines, and other players’ cities. The outcome may be good or bad—and either way, we enjoy the challenge of dealing with it. I feel like each day in the “real world", and I’ve always got a small bit of excitement to see what will happen next. “What will my inbox deliver?” “What interesting articles or podcasts will I discover?” and “Will this client like the work we present?” I think my ever-present curiosity drew me toward working in innovation and startups, as they are businesses in which the discovery process never stops.

More recently, my curiosity led me to learn about mindfulness and “watching” my thoughts and reactions. So today, I have new questions—call it an “expansion pack”: “Why did I react that way?” “Where is this emotion coming from?” and “What made me answer this question as I did here!?” Life often feels like a game, with infinite results that will unfold and keep things interesting. My curiosity drives me to keep playing and exploring the frontiers of the maps.”

Amanda’s thought…

I suspect Bob would love all direct responses from you.  I find it incredibly encouraging when I hear from any of you after I share my thoughts. It is powerful for me. I assume many others have a similar experience. So here is Bob's email… pip

Bob, reading your post reminded me of the joy that comes from playing the game of life. Waking up early ready to explore, engage and spread joy feels like a playful approach and one that has continued to yield incredible opportunities between the humans I encounter nearly every day. Your expansion pack feels like a necessary download that would benefit anyone. Best to you in the days ahead.
